How to Sext Safely: Consent and Privacy for Adults
A non-graphic guide for adults to setting boundaries, protecting personal information and responding to unwanted intimate content.
It is optional, and everyone must be an adult
Sexting is an intimate exchange, not something anyone owes a match. Winkora is for people aged 18 and over, but the age entered in a profile is self-reported. Email, a portrait and a nickname cannot establish someone’s age. If there is any doubt that someone is an adult, do not start or continue an intimate exchange. Report suspected underage use.
Agree on the boundaries first
Before changing the tone, ask whether the other person wants an intimate conversation. Establish whether the exchange will be text only and whether pictures are welcome. Permission for one activity does not cover another, and anyone can change their mind. Stop when someone declines, hesitates or withdraws permission. Never use attention, likes or guilt to bargain for participation.
Privacy has limits
Recipients can copy messages or capture a screen. Leave out identifying details and check an image’s background and location information before sharing. A disappearing post or deleting a session cannot undo a saved copy. Taking away a name or portrait does not make intimate material anonymous.
Know what Winkora can and cannot protect
Winkora chats are not end-to-end encrypted, and the owner can review stored messages and media for moderation. Private media is delivered without advance review. Do not assume an upload is safe because it appeared in the app. A Seen receipt also does not mean a picture was opened. You can keep a conversation text only or leave at any time.
Do not turn private material into a public post
Consent to receive a message or image is not consent to publish it. Winkora’s shared-chat feature requires participant approval, but that does not eliminate the risk of copies or identification. The safest choice for intimate material is not to publish it. Respect another person’s boundaries about copying and sharing.
Report unwanted content or threats
Use Report on the relevant message or participant, choose the closest reason and add brief context. Block the sender to stop seeing their messages in this session. Reports are reviewed manually when a moderator is available; the app does not provide an emergency response. Do not download or forward suspected child sexual abuse material. For threats or image-based abuse, use the support resources below and contact local emergency services if you are in immediate danger.
